Re: Guess I'm Falling In Love fake live version?

For reference, here's another Upbeat video with the general 'audience' sound: https://youtu.be/PzYiq07douU?t=59 Sounds pretty close to the opening of this track to me. Yes, very similar, and also sounds like 'canned cheering'. On balance I really think this is the Upbeat recording it claims to be, ...

Didn't they appear on the show three times between '67-'68?
According to Unterberger, yes.

In the "TV appearances" page of Olivier's site it quotes 8th July.
It does, but that's also where the "early 67" quote is from. Unterberger also lists a possible Upbeat performance on 8th Jan, and specifically links it to GIFIL. Maybe this is that performance, but who knows?

Re: Guess I'm Falling In Love fake live version?

The more I listen to this the more I think it's an early version, pre-Gymnasium, which would fit with the Upbeat timeline. The idea of 'canned cheering' being from the original broadcast seems definitely plausible to me as well. Great find, thanks for sharing But upbeat was July 67. The gymnasium s...

Re: Guess I'm Falling In Love fake live version?

This is very strange. To me the recording sounds genuine - in fact it sounds just like I'd expect the Upbeat version to. Except to my ears the cheering at the start and end sound the same, and sound very tacked on - as if somebody has taken a demo/rehearsal version of the song and tried to make it s...

Re: question about 3rd album songs

Wasn't Pale Blue Eyes written about a woman Lou had an affair with? If we know when the affair ended it might give us a clue at to when he wrote the song...

Re: Richie Unterberger on the making of White Light/White Heat*

It's a shame they didn't record a version of What Goes On w/ Cale during those sessions. Sterling is on record as saying the summer of '68 was THE definitive version of that song because of Cale's organ playing. I believe it. Maybe one of these days a live tape will surface. Yes, at this point I th...

Re: Richie Unterberger on the making of White Light/White Heat*

I think the most convincing thing is the similarity between the songs on the 'july 68' tape and the other 3rd album sessions tape in the LR archive. Yes. I think you are right. At least I can now stop hoping for more Cale recordings! Yes. If you look at it in the full context of what's listed here,...

Re: Richie Unterberger on the making of White Light/White Heat*

The more I look at this the more convinced I become that the date of 5 July 68 is right. If you look at the format for entries in the Lou archive the bit written in bold appears to be some sort of title while the dates are always written in normal font after that. I know XII - 4/68 [Velvet Undergrou...
