Re: A Day of Listening at the Lincoln Center Library

Concerning the currently unavailable John Cale studio material, I received this email from the Lou Reed archive: There are still a number of the recordings they are still working on uploading to public access in the library. The material should be available with to the public within weeks. Sorry for...

Re: A Day of Listening at the Lincoln Center Library

I have written to the LR Archive to ask about the 'missing' July '68 recordings. I will report back.

Re: A Day of Listening at the Lincoln Center Library

Thanks for the second instalment and the detailed descriptions. Seems to me that there is a whole section of the VU history (66 to mid-68) missing from the archive, including the Cale July Studio tape. This means we don't have the demo tape the band sent to the UK. Odd that there Ludlow/Borom str de...

Re: A Day of Listening at the Lincoln Center Library

Thank-you. Very interesting. Looking forward to the final instalment when you have time. Shame about the studio stuff for '3rd' not being there. Why would they list this and not have it available – unless there is some arrangement with UMG over previously released song material like this, that preve...

Re: Lou Reed Papers, 1958-2015

I went to the library today and listened for about 6 hours. Sorry, I did not attempt any recordings. I did take a bunch of notes, and, assuming that any of my notes are decipherable, I will upload them later. I focused on the VU, but also cherry picked a few listens of the solo stuff. Great. Lookin...

Re: John Cale recorded five '3rd' album songs with VU?

The 3 songs published recorded at TTG in May were done on the 29th. The band was recording the previous day too, May 28th. They cut two song: “Here Come The Waves” 3:20 With gtr, rhythm gtr, bass and drums “ It’ s Gonna Rain Tomorrow “ 3:05 seems just an attempt, as there is no drums. Just two gtrs...

Re: John Cale recorded five '3rd' album songs with VU?

The That’s The Story of My Life version with Cale on Viola is on Crawdaddy August 1968 issue (Inevitable pag 271) Most if not all the 3rd Album was composed while Cale was in the band. Also some of the songs recorded for the Lost Album: I Cant Stand it, Foggy Notion, Move Right In, Ride Into the Su...

Re: John Cale recorded five '3rd' album songs with VU?

Do we know where they are all located? Apparently the setlist is written on paper from a restaurant six blocks away from Poor Richard's. This might be how they originally dated the piece. Could just be their favourite restaurant, who know. Aardvark Cinematheque 1608 N. Wells Street, Chicago, IL 606...

Re: John Cale recorded five '3rd' album songs with VU?

Yes I take it back - no idea where I got the notion of 1968 from. Also Foggy Notion in 1966? Am I missing something? Doesn't Olivier have them in Chicago in February and April 68? If this is a Chicago setlist, one of those dates seems much the likelier for this set. Susan Pile even mentions them pl...
