Re: 1967 Gymnasium tapes

I agree, Elvis - the vinyl sounds better than the CD. As for the jump cut in "Run Run Run" - I think that was done just to replace a poorly sung chorus. The acetate version is unaltered, and you can hear what they replaced. Amazing stuff... I'm still listening to it! --- COME ON, POWERS THAT BE! REL...

Re: 1967 Gymnasium tapes

I'm not sure what's going on with the drums :o To me it sounds like there's more than one drummer? Is there any organ on this or is Cale playing another instrument? the bit at the end sounds like something left on an older recording - no idea if it has anything to do with vu but thought i should le...

"Guess I'm Falling In Love" is the same performance as on the Peel Slowly box.

Re: Pale Blue Eyes

What can I say? Go listen to the tape, and then tell me Cale doesn't need anyone teaching him the song, because on the tape Lou is OBVIOUSLY teaching him the song.

Re: Pale Blue Eyes

The thing about the live dates makes sense, but I just went back and listened to the Bataclan tape, and it's hard to escape the conclusion that John simply has no idea how to play the song. Lou is not only teaching him the chords, but the order of the verses and chorus, and says "there's even a solo...

Re: Pale Blue Eyes

Are you sure? I get the impression from the Bataclan rehearsal tape that Cale's very unfamiliar with the song.

If that were the case, though, one would expect the two tapes to sound similar (just as it's easy to recognize the sound of the two Max's Kansas City shows). To me, the two versions of "Guess I'm Falling In Love" have a different room ambiance.

You read my mind, Elvis... If you listen to the two versions of "Guess I'm Falling In Love," the sound of the one on the box is identical to "Booker T" (and the bootlegged "Sister Ray" fragments, for that matter). So, to me, if "Booker T" is the Gymnasium, so is the boxed set version of "Guess I'm F...
