I've Had It by The Bell Notes is fantastic, and I can picture Lou covering it in high school!
Ya, me too. That was the only song, other than the two Lou Reed songs, that I had downloaded from that Bob Shad compilation.

Re: VU live bests

Sunday Morning: Max's Kansas City 1970 - not better than the original but a good vocal. I'm Waiting For The Man: Gymnasium - love the guitar riff on this one. Femme Fatale: 1969: The Velvet Underground Live - so lucky to have this amazing Lou vocal on his song. Venus In Furs: I'd have to also go wit...

Re: Words and Music May 1965 - Lou Reed

It would have been cool if they could have put a whole early years set together by including all of the Pickwick material they could find, as well as that other May 11th demo tape and even the Primitive's rehearsal tape. That leads me to wonder if the reason that 'Put Your Money On The Table' in not...

Re: Words and Music May 1965 - Lou Reed

Thought I'd just share this cool dream I had last night. I've been having a lot of crazy dreams lately, but this one might just be my favourite. And I've had a couple real cool music dreams. This one clearly was inspirted by my exicitement over the coming release of "Words and Music Lou Reed". Copie...

Re: details Up-tight - Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams performed at EPI

Worth mentioning is that on the January 1st, 1966 rehearsal tape, Sterling Morrison can be heard playing the riff to Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams(right before Lou asks him to play Walk Alone) on his electric guitar. Sounds pretty enticing, and to me might just be the best (non) version of the song. ...

Re: Jonas Mekas - Scenes from tne life of Andy Warhol

This is amazing audio. I thought I'd heard this version of The Nothing Song, or Chic Mystique, and had dismissed it as lo-fi nothingness, but this is the incredible holy grail VU improv kinda stuff I crave. Were there poorer quality recordings the pre-dated this?

Re: Gymnasium 4-30-67 recording

I've been obsessing lately over the hour-long April 30 '67 set from the Gymnasium, included in Universal's 45th anniversary White Light/White Heat package. The balance is rather unfortunate, but the performance is blistering and the inclusion of two songs we've never heard before in live versions i...

Re: Gymnasium 4-30-67 recording

Ya I have a hard time following Cale’s organ on Sister Ray, but it’s there and doesn’t always sound like an organ. The Booker T./ Gift thing always seemed pretty simple to me. Someone recalled using a live instrumental song as the backing for The Gift. When the Peel Slowly box came out in the 90’s s...

Love that song. I think it’s one of his best. And I too would love to hear another version of it.

Re: Lou Reed Demos

I think the inclusion of NY Telephone Conversation suggests that this is a new tape not included in the archives. They do have similar demo tapes from the era with most of these songs on them but I suspect they are not studio recordings like this one. (probably the same Tapes that have been bootleg...
