Re: Max's Kansas City Tapes :: Conrad?

Well, it might not be classic era Velvets, but it's absolutely of historical note and probably a decent earner for the estate too. The number of times that Max's Kansas City has been re-released, plus the horrendous quality of most of the other 1970 Velvets concert recordings, plus the inclusion of ...

Re: Bootleg with AI...

It'll happen eventually - but how much can you add to the original before it no longer becomes a factual record of the gig?

Re: Bootleg with AI...

If you mean being able to split the audio into different tracks (one for the guitar, one for the drums, one for the vocals etc) and then EQing the individual tracks and remixing them together to improve the clarity, then this can be done on live recordings but with mixed results. It usually doesn't ...

Re: Little Sister live

Remarkable recording - thanks for posting!

Any further clues to the source?? The audio sounds like it may have been re-encoded from a lower bitrate digital source - there's some digital distortion as well as the usual tape/analogue distortion...

Re: Best sources for live recordings

1970... 1970-01-02 Second Fret, Philadelphia PA Four songs - pretty good sounds quality. I think the various CDs and LPs all sound about the same, so the version I use is from Searchin' For My Mainline. 1970-01-03 Second Fret, Philadelphia PA Sister Ray from the above bootleg CD. 1970-04-17 Paramoun...

Re: Best sources for live recordings

1967-04-?? The Gynmasium, NY This is the recording of GIFIL that Cale played on the radio in 1979. A different performance with slightly different lyrics and a lower audio fidelity, probably due to being transmitted over the radio. Which is the best fidelity, or are the bootleg CDs all the same? I ...

Re: Best sources for live recordings

The links to the speed-corrected FLACs of 1966 on page 7 of the other thread still seem to be working. You are indeed correct - thank you. I've done some analysis of the four versions of Valleydale 1966: 1) Move Back! and VU&N boxset are from the same source and have the same edit in Melody Laughte...

Re: VELVET UNDERGROUND - 1969-10-19: Live at the End of Cole Ave (remix)

Unfortunately, it does not allow me to unzip it. It asks me to enter the password. I must have unwittingly, somehow accidentally typed into the password field while zipping it the second time with 7-zip for the re-upload, as it asked for the password for me too. (Note to self: always test such a zi...

Re: Best sources for live recordings

That thread is fascinating - looks like a lot of work has been done already. I have one question - has anyone heard the new(ish) 2LP pressing of Valley Dale Ballroom on VUAS? I'm unsure whether it's the same VUAS as the one that issued the Afterhours cassettes, but if so they may have used the casse...

Re: Best sources for live recordings

Thanks for that info - very helpful.

I might try making a version of the recording from the VU&N boxset with the tuning etc added back in. Are the performances themselves unedited on VU&N boxset? And is it played back at the right speed?
