Re: New Early Lou LP

I think the cover photo is from Vogue, of all places - Cale describes it in Welsh for Zen.

Re: 3rd Album Deluxe - Bill Levenson drops a hint?

argh! this is a tough one for me - the 3rd LP is my least fave, so I really don't want 3 new versions on CD to not listen to, and I just feel like UMG are screwing us on this one, because we know we're not getting all the VU/Another View stuff or all the Matrix stuff, leaving both of these as potent...

Re: CALE MAKES A DRONE RETURN TO LONDON IN SEPTEMBER

I was going to post a review of sorts, but decided against it, as I didn't want to sound overly negative. For me it was actually a quite ordinary gig. As I was at the front, to the side, I could see them if I craned my head back, but not really hear the drones. A couple of years ago I saw/heard a pe...

The New Bohemia, John Gruen

I picked up this book about the East Village art/theatre/film/lit/music scenes in 1965. It was published early in '66, with photos mostly by Fred McDarrah - hasn't really got the VU in it, but it's their context effefectively, so is still of interest. Covers Ed Sanders, the Fugs, Peace Eye Bookstore...

I'm pretty sure the PSAS version of WGO sounds a lot better than Live '68...

Re: 3rd Album Deluxe - Bill Levenson drops a hint?

Re the SR - when I read the article I already had the suggestion of it being cut short, so I interpreted it wrong - partly because he says the 'tape cuts out' rather than the track fades out.

Re: 3rd Album Deluxe - Bill Levenson drops a hint?

here is (part of) Untergerger's take on the Matrix tapes - he evidently interviewed Peter Abrams: "Those four hours of half-inch, four-track tape amount to 42 songs, including versions of a few tunes that don?t appear on 1969 Velvet Underground Live, among them three takes of ?There She Goes Again,?...
