Re: Best sources for live recordings
The actual performance of Melody Laughter is edited on Move Back/45th - there is about a minute and half of music edited out at various points including a section of about 30 seconds where Lou and/or John are singing "Ba ba ba " etc. As far as I know all of the other tracks are complete and at the r...

Re: Best sources for live recordings
Re the Valleydale, Move Back isn't the most complete source - Melody Laughter has some elements edited out of it that are on the 1966 2xCD set, about 1 1/2 mins are missing. There's a thread on here about it if you want to track it down. IMHO the 45th anniversary is the best source, but as you say i...

Re: Sweet Sister Ray reissue 2023
The quote about Lou being on his white Gretsch, John on viola, etc. was originally on the sleeve notes for Live '68 and refers only to Heroin from the La Cave gig, which would have featured John on viola, not SSR, which probably doesn't (certainly I've never noticed it on there). Moe on bass wasn't ...

Re: Sweet Sister Ray reissue 2023
I knew Mo played bass at Poor Richards but never heard or read that she did on SSR. Do we know for a fact that she did or are we just assuming so because of the lack of drums? It's a while since I've heard it and can't remember if there are clearly 3 other instruments as well as bass?

Re: Warhol's private tape is ready to roll...in public!
I'm just going off the sleeve notes which say "mono mixes prepared at Sterling Sound". I don't know if that means they were actually mixed there (I assumed it did) or just mastered.

Re: Warhol's private tape is ready to roll...in public!
One thing I do hope is that if they do release the tapes they leave them in their original 1966 mixes. Personally I don't know why they felt the need to give them a new mix for the 45th set, I'd much rather they just left them as they were. The Warhol tapes are mono mixdowns. I dont see how they ar...

Re: Warhol's private tape is ready to roll...in public!
The versions on the tape they used for the 45th box must have been mixed to some extent - presumably the same mixes that were then cut to acetate - so why not just use them? It's probably just a personal thing but I'm just not a fan of new mixes of old recordings, even if they are technically superi...
