Re: This Velvet Underground

-I know Lou Reed because he is very famous; was the VU his band in the sense that the Beach Boys were Brian Wilson's band? (I mean to ask was he the creative genius of this group?) Kind of... he was certainly responsible for most of the songwriting. However, I think most people would consider that ...

No, he doesn't appear on any tracks on the third album - he left the band in September '68 and recording didn't start till November/December I think. I think a few of those songs were written and played before he left though - there's some (apocrythal?) tale about him really hating Pale Blue Eyes, a...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1421&item=7533028888&rd=1 Price perhaps a bit steep, but pretty cool all the same! The guy says that at the time he was also writing an end-of-year thesis on the VU and got input from both Lou and John. Might be interesting to see... http://i2...

Bass player is not Chas Stanley - he was there as Death not as Bishop. Piero looked much different and he unexpectedly joined band on sax during Venus In Furs. Bass player is not mentioned in film cast on my Piero page. He was a young poet and his name will be probably familiar only to big expert o...

I've always thought that John's first solo album, Vintage Violence, is the closest thing either he or Lou has done to the sound of Loaded. Suggests to me that the reason he left was more to do with personal differences and the overall situation in the band than musical direction.

And let's not forget that he was in The Primitives touring band, the first time Lou and John played together.
