There really doesn't seem to be anything much of the band in Reed's archive. At least not anything we haven't already heard.
Can confirm that the 1965 demos I heard at the Lincoln Center library were 90%+ Lou, with Cale mostly as the audience.
There is still some very interesting stuff in the archives which you can't listen to, even if you are there at the library.
There is a set of recordings for the third album, which, if the dates are accurate, predate Cale's departure from the VU. (date listed is July 5, 1968). Presumably, the Beginning to See The Light we have with Cale is from that session.

Yes. But that's already been questioned as probably misdated.
I thought it was interesting that most of the live VU stuff I saw in there seemed to be basically Lou's copies of various bootlegs. And also a lot of stuff he had, had come from Moe.

There was a pic of that session tape box in the article.

This really does look more positive. Thank you for posting. Do they talk about this box?

Except as was said before - the Roman numerals because they come first would usually denote month in the USA. And the 3rd album was recorded nov/dec of 68. I do wonder why this is listed as July in the archive unless there’s something more on or with the box that we can’t see.

No nothing in the article about this tape.

maybe they just misread XII as VII?
As it says 'For Lou only' in his writing these might just be his mixes?

For a minute, I was incoherently thinking they got the month and date mixed around but, it's '5' not a '7'
The library entry in the database says:
XII - 4/68 [Velvet Underground] 1968 July 5
It might be interesting to compare this with the following box cover, which has almost the same tracklisting.
Anyway, hoping for new Cale material seems like a forlorn line of enquiry at this point in time.

As much as I want archival VU releases, I desire 1977-78 era live Lou even more. For me, that was his band at its most elastic and powerful.
But the two fantasy I've always desired are 1) the complete Rock N Roll Animal show, remastered and in the correct order (they've never remastered Lou Reed Live). There were two shows recorded that day, FYI; and 2) A Berlin box set with outtakes.

I can't see any reason why we shouldn't see 1). The whole reel is there with the encore. Reels 561463-561465. The main concert being duplicated on two reels. Of course this depends on who still holds the licence. I guess Sony, but why
wouldn't they release it?
But 2). Berlin boxset. It seems to me reading the bios with Ezrin talking, that the projected 2xLP version was scuppered by the record company before recording even started. Of course there may be outtakes, nonetheless. Down to Sony again, I guess.

I know that on the 3rd lp there is a huge amount of Fender XII used exclusively by Lou. He is said to have loved those guitars during that time and it could just be a play on that particular instrument or it could be recordings exclusively using that instrument. Just a thought.
