Anyone know where this comes from?
I did a bit of Googling, and it's a still from a 1958 French film "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud". That's not Lou Reed in the picture!

The film is here https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2am6mf and the still is from about 56:30.

Ok, it's not a photo, it's the image on the very first page of The Great Psychedelic Discography by Martin C. Strong (Canongate, 1997)

The VU as Goth cadavers. That's a powerful imagination Martin Strong has.

Yes indeed, I should have credited him in the first place.

Unfortunately the potted biographies for Cale, Nico, Reed and the Velvets all contain at least one error (but correct me if I'm wrong).
Cale: "Helen of Troy" featured a version of "Heartbreak Hotel".
Nico: had a daughter by Eric Emerson.
Reed: was born Lewis Firbank
Velvets: Moe spelt as "Mo", Sterling died of lymponia.

I can't scan the entries without breaking the spine of the book which I'm not willing to do.

Nico looks more like Joni Mitchell.
