Having a VU weekend

Post by simonm » 06 Mar 2004 22:56

This is a fairly pointless post to say I'm having a big VU weekend around here, while I do some work on a guitar amp - listened to mono WL/WH, Wild Side of the Street, some Quine Tapes and Fully Loaded bits, and am currently digging the Symphony Of Sound soundtrack which I really LOVE. Chic Mystique is up next.
I was lucky enough to find a free copy of Mojo in the street. Bockris' article nearly made me listen to the 3rd album, but I'm not in the mood for that today.....

Yeah the bokris article is good!

Interesting point he makes: the 3rd LP should have been called 'Love Songs' hmmmmm...

I gotta say it's still my least favourite VU lp, it's not that i don't like it, I just like the others better

I've never heard symphony of sound but it's on my wanted list

Velvet Weekend

Post by Juan Motaim » 07 Mar 2004 17:06

I remember one year on summer vacation. My family made our annual trip. I decided, I've got it all in one place, this is what I care about, I'll be in the car for thirty-something hours, it's time to listen to all my Velvets stuff in Chronological order. You know, the way Lou wanted us to.

So I listened to PSAS disc one, the two sides of the Nico single (Not Sayin', Last Mile), and so on and so forth. My collection wasn't nearly as big then as it is now, but I got all the way to Blue Mask before I gave up and put on something else.

I've never tried again. Mainly now because with all the bootlegs I'd have to set aside a month of nothing but VU. And, let's face it, I'm not sure I want to hear Mistrial all the way through again.

...most of the weekend i've been reading "factory made" about andy warhol's 60's ...admittedly skimreading through some of the material, in a rush to get to musical info.

I'm glad that didn't happen but it should have had some kind of title... I mean, The Velvet Underground & Nico, The Velvet Underground and VU are just too similar...

 I've actually tried that too once but I didn't get nearly as far as you! In one sitting anyway...
