mystery image from James Marshall /The Hound NYC on instagram - the pinkness of their faces make me suspesct it's colourised? Not sure I remember seeing this pic before but apparently taken at the same time as the familiar '65 pics...

I think it's a Donald Greenhaus photo. Definitely colorised.

The same photo, in its original B/W form, is found about 5/8ths of the way down this page on Bob Egan's magical PopShots site:

https://popspotsnyc.com/lou_reed_velvet_underground/

It was indeed from same session that Donald Greenhaus shot of the nascent VU, the better-known frames of which are of the band members posed on Ludlow Street. This portion of the session was at the nearby Seward Park. As is the point with Egan's entire site, the photo is shown against a recent shot of the same spot.

FYI my search for that page led me to a superb Nat Finkelstein frame of the Paraphernalia opening that I don't recall having seen before:

Posted by Paul Myers to Facebook (not sure if this has been posted here before?), with the message
A few years before he passed away, I asked my friend Nat Finklestein for a Velvet Underground photo that nobody had ever seen before. He sent me this

Not sure I understand what's happening in that picture, but it's great - it looks like how the VU sounded in 66
