EPI at The Arts Council of the YMHA dec.10-11,66 50th Anniversary

Remarkable picture of EPI at Phily, bit hardly recognizing the whole still due the dimly light. But I suppose that the one with white shirt is Sterl and Cale in the center in black and white neck (Betsy Johnson's clothes),Gerald wriggling dancing,Moe with Lou at the bottom with sunglasses.A dificult picture indeed.

According Olivier's site:

"A mixed-media discotheque complete with Andy Warhol and underground films.
First there'll be different underground films each night, then Andy Warhol, himself, and his rock group,The Velvet Underground And Nico. Then they flash lights on you and everything and turn you into wallpaper. Then you're supposed to go out of your mind. The critics aren't wild about this but only the Arts Council has the nerve to do it".

I've enlarged and brought out a bit more detail from the Phila. pic that Taxine posted:

I still can't tell what the hell is going on here -- what's the deal, for instance, with the disembodied legs (in white trousers) over toward the left? Could that be how Andy Warhol photographed after eating garlic?

Why does Moe look like she's playing an electric lectern?

And whose shadow is it that appears on the right side of the white backdrop? Sam Moskowitz might've taken the original of this photo, but I fear it has since been infected with the ghost of Delmore Schwartz.

No matter what happens that night at the Y, it's not likely to cause the fuss that ensued when the Velvets came to Philadelphia that first time in 1966, when Philadelphia Daily News critic Judy Altman's review of the 41/2-hour show, with a $2 admission, was headlined: "Warhol 'Happening' Hits Like a Noise Bomb."

Interesting article about this show, with a "beautiful and lovely" review as usual !!

It's been taken with a relatively long exposure time (maybe 1 sec or so?) which accounts for the weird effects!
