Where Warhol got the banana (maybe)

This showed up among the plethora of 50th anniversary articles. Pretty cool!

It is the same banana. Nice find (the article)!

Can we assume the ashtray pre-dates the design? Whichever, I would guess Warhol would have used a repro from a newspaper.

What the article does not mention is that the original idea for the cover was to use a plastic surgery photograph – a nose-job.

I was reading a book ( http://www.50jaarvelvetunderground.nl/ ) in witch got mencioned that Andy did buy a box full with stickers, including banana stickers. Before the album got released.
The book i read is in dutch, but refered to "Ik Jan Cremer 3" in witch it got mentioned for the firsth time.
Don't know if it got translated into English.
Maybey, Andy used it.
