The transfer turned out really well! For context - this film was shown on German TV in 1995 or so, and my VHS copy was maybe a 2nd or 3rd gen copy of that broadcast. A friend of mine contacted the filmmaker shortly afterwards, but the guy said that he had no further VU material other than what was in the finished film. Grrrrr! Here was a professional filmmaker at a 1967 VU show and he didn't capture 1 second of the VU on film!

I thought this was the band on the left at 2:15. You can see someone on guitar and Moe playing drums. Or at least I can imagine I can see it. Even if true, not much compensation.

I think you're right! I hadn't spotted that. But small consolation......

Re: Velvet clip from 498 3rd Ave - 1967.Jun.03 Philip Johnson Glass House, New Canaan, Connecticut

In a long profile (ca.75 pages, incl.adverts) titled "An Appetite For Motion" about Merce Cunningham in the 1968.May.04 edition of The New Yorker, found a small description of the benefit with mention of the VU:

"The Johnson benefit [1967.Jun.03] was a phenomenal success. Nearly four hundred invited guests - far more than had been expected - paid seventy-five dollars apiece to attend, and they stayed on after the performance for an elegant picnic supper, provided by Mr.and Mrs.John de Menil, who were co-sponsors of the event with Philip Johnson. The party ended somewhat abruptly at eleven-thirty, when a local policeman, acting on complaints from neighbors, silenced the Velvet Underground rock group just as it and the more enthusiastic amateur dancers among the guests were getting into action on the outdoor stage. No one seemed to feel particularly ill used, however, and Judith Blinken had excellent news to report at the next boardmeeting of the Cunningham Dance Foundation. The benefit receipts, after all expenses were subtracted, came to nearly twenty-four thousand dollars - enough to wipe out TUC debt and leave a surplus for future activities."

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else (e.g.Olivier's VUweb).
Now going through more 1960s New Yorkers for mentions of VU, will post if I find.
