Wow. If you listen closely one of the backing voices is definitely Cale.
Michael Barbiero, J.C. Convertino - no no no! Gary Kellgren, Val Valentin - yes yes yes!

I think that package is more likely to contain a copy of the Pickwick Studios tape. The postcodes on the package are 11th May (and 12th May 1965), and Olivier's site dates the Pickwick Studios tape as May 11 1965. The site dates the demo tape with "Never Get Emotionally Involved..." to July 1965 (same month as the tape on first disc of PSAS.)

Yes. Unterburg cites the Pickwick tape as 5th May. And there's a photo of a tape box to prove it. That tape also has some solo Cale piano work on it. Whether the stuff in the box is exactly the same remains to be seen.

Interesting that someone else has a copy of that tape, as Unterberger told how he'd only been able to hear it sitting in a car in a carpark, as played by the owner of the tape.

I remember reading an interview with Tony Conrad where he said that he owned the Primitives rehearsal tape before giving it to John Cale in recent years.

The evidence suggests that Lou was in possession of the Pickwick tape after mailing it to himself in 65. Unterburg’s mystery person also has a copy.

We know that Cale believed that he had the finished demo tape at the time of PSAS, but the tape he dug out and handed over was the wrong tape. Perhaps he found it in his basement or Lou had a copy in his archive and it has now been unearthed.

I would quite like to hear all this stuff.

I guess that now Lou has passed on, we are more likely to hear the stuff in his archive than the stuff Cale has in his possession. An ironic turn of events, given that Lou was the reason this stuff was not seeing the light of day, and why Conrad handed his box of VU tapes to Cale.
