Lou Reed Papers, 1958-2015
Re: Lou Reed Papers, 1958-2015
I'm just dying to go and make some notes, old fashioned style with pencil and paper(A recording would be great of course). I figured someone might have gone and done that by now, make notes. Either way, I figure I'll have to go before the end of 2019, hopefully much sooner. But how many days will a person need to listen to at least all of the studio stuff?

I went to the library today and listened for about 6 hours. Sorry, I did not attempt any recordings. I did take a bunch of notes, and, assuming that any of my notes are decipherable, I will upload them later. I focused on the VU, but also cherry picked a few listens of the solo stuff.

i'm kinda surprised nobody has attempted to record anything and leak it yet
Re: Lou Reed Papers, 1958-2015
if somebody did that and then shared them online, the library would probably take steps to stop it happening again. Sharing may be happening between friends, with things trickling out slowly. This is what happened with the Warhol 1966 tapes (Miss Joanie Lee etc) - they were circulating in a relatively secretive way before they were eventually posted online, which only happened when it became clear that the best bits not were not getting an official release at that time (about 2004?). This is a different situation, as there is so much stuff, but if i had access to it i would be cautious of scuppering deals for commercial release by circulating freely. I'm sure there will be bootlegs eventually, but official product too.

@simonm
Yea very true. I think for people outside of NY it's just kinda frustrating not being able to see/hear the archive. Who wouldn't love for it to be all officially releases, even just digitally! Does anybody know if there's like legal obstacles with the labels in terms of releasing material?
