Concertgebouw Soundboard 1971

Post by jt050501 »

Does anyone out there have the 1971 Concertgebouw show's soundboard recording? I have Final V.U. which has the audience recording and 4 FM recordings in average quality and I was able to find those same 4 tracks in a much higher quality on-line (White Light/White Heat, What Goes On, Cool It Down, & Oh! Sweet Nuthin'). All the links I've found to VPRO's page on the soundboard recording are dead as well and I'm greeted with their "oh shit waddup" error message. I'd really appreciate if anyone has any leads on this!

From what Joe Viglione says, a lot of Final VU was sourced from bootlegs many generations down from the originals. He said it was certainly the case with the 73 tape, which he holds the original of - including extra tracks.

It may not be, then, that the four recordings you've found are from the original archive, but just from a source closer to the original taper.

VPRO itself still seems to exist. But you might need to know some Dutch to try and find the right people to contact there if you want to see if they still have the full original anywhere.

Ps I'd love to hear it!

Yeah - so bad that they didn't even pitch correct the audience tape to the FM tape!

Or speed correct it!

At least one person from this forum has been successful in getting a CDR of the whole recording direct from VPRO:

Wow. Was there ever 'more later'?

Well, if anyone wants to make enquiries about getting a similar CDR, I'm happy to chip in. But it is, at least, 14 years after that guy did it. I wonder if they still offer that service. But it's be good to hear a couple of Squeeze songs played by the actual Velvets rather than just Doug and the drummer.

Unfortunately Dopey Joe is the only song they performed (I love that song personally) and I can't find the service in their website. Anyone is else is obvious welcome and to look and I'd be more than happy to chip in on this.

Ah, I forgot it was just the one. Still, it will go nicely on my Squeeze+ album. If we can find it.

The Willie and Walter line-up gets slated so much, but it's clearly a good band. Willie's keyboards add a lot to the sound, and Pretty Tree Climber is as good as anything that didn't make it onto Loaded.

I've tweeted VPRO about their archive. Will pass any details on if I hear back.
