Same version of White Light/White Heat, but Doug's speaking to the audience on the beginning. I'm trying to find a good way to download it as we speak

My usual sites failed to let me download it. It's stunning quality. The WLWH sounds even better than the version I heard just a few hours ago.

Sister Ray sounds the closest to the 'original' VU of all the songs I've heard so far. Moe's playing much more traditionally and it all sounds so laid back. Fantastic track.

Good find. I remember this surfacing back at the time but hadn't heard it since.

It sounds like a sound engineer's headphone mix - soloing each instrument in turn on the first number to check the sound. Willie's vocal gets the same treatment on one of the choruses of Cool It Down.

I dunno, I'm never going to be able to see this stuff as more than a sideshow to the real VU, but it's an interesting thing to listen to once or twice. Moe seems to have upped her game by this point - maybe it's the 'normal' kit as opposed to the sideways-on set up, but she sounds like a very competent, solid conventional rock drummer here.

I agree it's a sideshow, but hearing this tape in this quality finally justifies Yule's decision to carry on. It's a good band. And he took the decision I always took in bands, too. If a member quits and you can't replace them with someone better, replace them with something different. Switching from being a two guitar line-up to a guitar and keyboard line-up is brave but sensible. I think it pays off.

Can any of us say we wouldn't have done what Yule did? To be in a band so close to making it, and with a new album packed full of great songs, would any of us have called it a day after the singer quit? No chance

I love Willie's keyboard on these recordings. It works so well. It helps lead to one of the best versions of Oh! Sweet Nuthin' and What Goes On too.
