So, on the basis of a quick listen (and engineer Richard Alderson's recollections) it sounds like this is an ambient stereo recording - a couple of mics in the room picking up everything, including the radio broadcast that was blaring out as the band played. So nothing is hard-panned, meaning it's probably not possible to fully separate the music from the commentary.

On the other hand, there seems to be unique musical content to the left and the right of the stereo field, and the commentary is roughly down the middle. So we might be able to do something with it. Watch this space...

With respect to Simon's transfer, I found that by eliminating the loudest several clicks we could get a lot more volume out of the file. I've posted the revised version at https://tinyurl.com/y6g6eb8c.
