The name Donald Greenhaus will be recognizable to those familiar with the amazing photos he shot of the proto-VU: Lou, John, Sterling and Angus in front of and then on the roof of the 56 Ludlow Street building. Out of curiosity today I sought out some information on Greenhaus, and learned that he was a childhood friend of Lou's, became a professional photographer, and died in 2007. The Toronto Globe & Mail has a riveting personal essay by him on their site. I also found an interesting feature on him in a 1996 issue of Popular Photography magazine.
The latter I've put in PDF form at http://songpoemmusic.com/vuforum/Donald_Greenhaus.pdf, and the former is at https://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/do ... e25296758/.

Re: Donald Greenhaus
I knew Donald for a couple of years. I drew at joes place 3 nights a week and saturdays. Just learned of his passing. He knew how to make me laugh and in a way watched out for me. He use to hang out with his do who reminded me of Toto in front of joes playing jazz music. I was in his loft a few times couldn’t get over how big it was, Private elevator. I sat with him when he had an exhibition and people would give their 1 cent comment, he told me they know nothing and u can’t listen to them. I was so proud to know him. He was so matter of fact. His dad was a great photographer. Bless his soul, he is missed.
