Mike Visceglia, the bassist in the first John Cale Band, includes in his memoir A View From The Side an essay on his brief time with that group. His last night with the band was the infamous 1977 show in Croydon, England in which Cale highlighted his set by decapitating a live chicken during "Heartbreak Hotel," an event which Visceglia "viewed from the side" and offers a first-hand telling of.
