Got my copy of #56 today. In addition to the Jonathan Richamn article, it also includes an interview with Alfredo (by P. Milstein) and reviews of the book projects he's worked on.

There's a Dec. 1967 photo of the VU with DJ Al Gates I have not seen.

Interesting note by Richman of how Lou once put his guitar output through two different amps so he could play in stereo. This was a gig in mid-68 when Cale was sick.
I meant to write stereo from the two separate pick-ups. On reflection, I guess all the guitar guys here know that already. I didn't.

Scan.

Given that the magazine's probably paying the forum's own Phil Milstein for his VU contributions, I'd say that's a slightly moot point. But what do i know.

Juno. It currently says 'email when in stock' . I did this and got a notification the next day and that was yesterday. It's a bit odd because it was in stock the day before that when I first tried to order and forget to press 'pay'.

I reckon rough trade will get it in sooner or later too.

Jonathan Richman is such a goto story teller for his Velvet Underground experiences. I love this article.... just went back and listened to his 2014 discussion on his meeting and hanging out with them during his youth. He had some very interesting things to say about them and the sound of music back then in general. I am in 100% agreement with him with respect to hearing music now verses the past. Even seeing underground music in the 80's was less constrained by a sound man and more in the hands of the people playing. I am so bored of pedal boards and close mic'd amps.... glad this was discussed... made me not feel so alone in my thinking of and playing live music.
