2023 Bataclan Remaster by Easy Action

Post by MJG196 » 27 Jan 2024 17:34

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, and I couldn't find references to it, but has anyone listened to Easy Action's 2023 speed-corrected and remastered Bataclan 2LP release? I picked it up yesterday, and by God, it's the best version I've ever heard. No download card, though.

I was hesitant to buy it, but with gift card burning a hole in my pocket, I figured it was free money. I carried it around the record store as I wavered - after all, the bootleg versions I have on CD (in my attic, of course) haven't gotten much play over the past 20 years. In the end, though, I couldn't resist - and am SO happy that I grabbed it. Highly recommended.

Easy Action does it again on the Lou/VU front.

Great to hear that EA is producing this recording at the correct speed, bootleggers take note!

Last week I came across the "Lou Reed" on Soundcloud.
There the remastered Bataclan recordings are freely available for streaming

The EA guys have also released it at the wrong speed on the Alchemy label in 2003

Anyone have the CD? I grabbed a track listed as the 2023 from a sharing app and although it was flac, it has lossy lineage. Could just be someone ripped it improperly or re-encoded an MP3 as flac, but I'd like to confirm the CD is not actually like this.

Does anyone know how it compares to the 2018 Spyglass version ?

Can't make a direct comparison but the 2018 Spyglass version is definitely speed-corrected, and sounds very good on vinyl. Can't imagine the EA version is conspicuously better. The track times on the Spyglass CD are the same as on the Easy Action CD - could be from the same master...

Thank you, that's what I suspected, but wanted to confirm before wasting $ - I have the original 1980 bootleg, the Spyglass double lp, and a CD which is all I should need at this point.

I don’t have any earlier version. I was thwarted in my attempt to buy the spyglass version on eBay, so this might be for me. Thanks for the news.

No prob. The only negative I have is that the records were REALLY dirty and needed a wash before playing them. That's a minor quibble, though.
