Well, here it is!
The Velvet Underground - Cool It Down live on TopPop (AVRO, Netherlands), October 12th 1971:
LINK
Recorded by Ron de Bruijn on a Grundig TK141 reel-to-reel, via a direct line feed from the TV.
Ron also had tickets to see the VU play at the Turfschip in Breda on Oct 27th, only to find that the gig was cancelled - one of several Dutch tour dates that fell through that month. He was there at the venue with his tape recorder, and taped the announcement saying the gig wasn't going ahead.
Anyway, enjoy, and thank you Ron!
Thank You! Mark and Ron!

Can Ron tell what he remembered from that Top Pop show?
Did they only play/broadcast Cool It Down [so contrary to other stories/rumours no Rock and Roll at all]?

Anyway I'm very interested in any further details Ron might remember!

Ron says:
The broadcast was only one song: Cool It Down, I'm very sure, R&R I have never seen in TopPop, and also not in compilation episodes later on.

Thanks for this, amazing this kind of thing is still turning up. I can hear hints/ roots of Lou's "Men Of Good Fortune" in some of the sections in there, never really connected the two.

That's an interesting point - "If you're moving too fast, don't you want it to last" / "Rich son waits for his father to die etc", and "You know it makes no difference to me" / "Me, I just don't care at all". Completely different vibe, but very similar structure.

Just listening to this again. I don't think I've ever heard Moe play so many fills. And suspect Lou would never have let her get away with hitting the cymbals that much...

Thanks all - have trimmed the noise at the start, boosted the volume and EQ'ed it to be less boomy and uploaded to Youtube here so it's more easily listenable

Weirdly it has a very similar sound to the Amsterdam FM version of Cool It Down on the Final VU boxset - so similar that I had to check they aren't the same!
They are definitely different performances, and if the dates are correct - a week or so apart, but unusual for 2 such old recordings done in different venues on different days to have such a similar sound. I guess they must have used the exact same gear/settings and been very well rehearsed
