Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
Re: Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
I have a sealed mono Emerson banana l.p. that I bought back in '69 or '70 to keep as a back up copy. I am pretty sure that it was $2.95. Stereo was $1.00 more... I also have a couple of unpeeled bananas that I picked up in the late 70's for under $10 each after they started climbing in value.
Re: Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
I have never seen these couple of items on sale anywhere
THE MUSIC FACTORY
2 LPs promo, MGM MFRS-3, stereo, USA, 1968
JUNE SAMPLER - MGM & Verve
LP promo, MGM/Verve MVP 2, stereo, UK, 1968
From my own stuff I would consider as rare:
Japanese Promo White Label Banana fisrt issue MV2060
Oh! Sweet Nuthin´45 Stock
Sunday/Femme Australian 45 Stock
French 3rd Original (Bigginnig is twice at Side 2!)
Canadian White Banana - Misprinted
Squeeze: Spanish Original Issue
What about the US Close-Cut Peel-off Bananas?? I thought those to be much easier to find but I have neer seen one of those at Ebay. Am I wrong?

Re: Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
I think I saw a copy of the 1968 UK sampler on ebay a while back(?)
I've never seen or heard of a copy of the "Music Factory" 2LP for sale. I dont even know anyone who has a copy.
Rarest items I have are probably:
"Oh Sweet Nothin" US stock 45
"Sunday Morning" US stock 45
all the other VU 45s as promos
mono "big black sticker" unpeeled banana lp signed by the whole band (including Nico)
1st edition of the original Michael Leigh book signed by the whole band
mint VU-1 promo EP (without pic sleeve!!!!) - the most expensive item I ever bought: it was ~$200 about 6 or 7 years ago
(not really a commercially available item, but I also have a colour copy of (part of) the 1972 Bataclan show on VHS/DVD)
A long time ago I decided to only collect UK and US vinyl issues - I had to do that to protect my sanity/bank account....

Re: Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
On the "Why Something Different" promo sheet for the 3rd album there is a Pic Sleeve which is not the Album Sleeve and neither the one used for the promo 45 VU-1.
It always seemed to me as an attempt for a commercial release as single of "What Goes On" (the promo sheet reads below the pic sleeve: "What Goes On" ... their great new single ... is just that" than never went furtehr than the promo release "What Goes ON/Jesus"
The reference aside is the one for the album SE-4617. Could it be also a first layout for the album cover.

Re: Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
Now that IS special. What's the quality like? Is it the same songs as the B&W version?gordon (lurid_uk) wrote:(not really a commercially available item, but I also have a colour copy of (part of) the 1972 Bataclan show on VHS/DVD)

Re: Rare, Rarest and Most Expensive VU items
I think we all know what a VHS cassette/DVD-R looks like

I'm sorry, I wanted to see this:

Sorry for the confusion.
