Notes:

Courtesy of the Stonecutter Archives is this show from Lou Reed's "New York" world tour in an arena setting. This is not the Fabio 38f master, and the taper's name has been lost to time, so we'll just refer to this one as Recorder 2.

Fabio's version is recorded seemingly from a higher position in the seats, has more high end and reverb. The sound on this one is closer to the stage and probably ground level, as Wasserman's Clevinger comes through with more punch, and in some places ("Busload of Faith," for example) begets some mild distortion on the tape. Fabio also seemed all set and ready before the show started. Recorder 2 seems to be settling into his/her seats when the show begins, and there is some shifting of the soundscape during the first song.

This one also hopefully runs more faithful to the proper pitch and speed, whereas Fabio's master ran too fast, as Igemo75 noted.

The biggest flaw on this recording is with "Rock and Roll" -- during the moment before the reprise, the taper probably thought the song had ended and the recorder was stopped and then restarted when Lou kicked back into the song. So a few seconds are missing there. In addition, probably because of the rush to get the recorder back on, that part of the tape is very muffled when the recorder is turned back on.

The setlist format here is very basic. Lou plays through a set of the "New York" album (sans three songs), then returns for some older material. It was great to see Lou on this tour after the relatively lows of the mid-80s for him like "Mistrial." The live versions of the two selections from that album here are tackled with a renewed vigor that wasn't as evident on the prior tour. Strange to hear curmudgeonly Lou lead a singalong on "Walk on the Wild Side" -- it's as if he came around to accepting the critical acclaim for the new album and decided to enjoy himself on this tour.

May you all enjoy too,
