Golden Archive reissue

Post by Sheila Klein » 06 Oct 2017 03:45

Are there any other examples of budget compilation album later being given the deluxe-reissue treatment?:

By the way the reissue omits the series title "Golden Archive" from at least the front cover. This whole thing seems nothing but odd to me.

That's my review at the foot of the page.

For the real completist - how about the Sundazed gold vinyl version?

No idea what Sundazed are playing at with some of their product. A lot of their stuff is not very well mastered or pressed either. I leave well alone.
any sounds that we feel would detract from the performance has been left in place

There just seems to be no love for this compilation out there, even this lovely original promo only went for the price of a reissue, I snapped it up (i felt sorry for it  ) I'm a sucker for anything with a yellow promo label. The VU have been seriously cramped by MGMs advertising on the back cover.

Sundazed:
This 2014 reissue, made from the original masters ...
From the original original masters, or from the masters used for the original Golden Archives reissue? It seems unlikely that the summer intern who was probably charged with pulling together the elements for the G.A. series had access to proper tapes, graphics or etc. Even though it was the same company and within just a few years of the original release, that's just not the way labels tended to handle their budget series. The wildly inappropriate Woolworth's photo to the Archetypes series reissue of White Light/White Heat (which, by the way, doesn't even mention by name the album it's a reissue of) is a good example of the level of thought and care given to budget-line products in that era.
