1969 Live With Lou Reed private remaster

Post by leamanc » 31 Dec 2017 02:27

I've finally completed a project I've wanted to do since The Complete Matrix Tapes were released two years ago. Using that 4xCD box set and the Live at the End of Cole Avenue bootleg CDs, I've reconstructed 1969: Velvet Underground Live With Lou Reed with the best materials available.

In the spirit of the original CDs, I've added a bonus track to each disc. "I Can't Stand It" is included as it was on the "Volume 2" CD release. Bur rather than a second version of "Heroin," I've included the furious back-and-forth guitar strum of "There She Goes Again" as the bonus track on disc 1.

I made an attempt to cut off material at the beginning and ends of each song and add fade-ins and fade-outs, as per the original 1969 Live. I wasn't always successful in replicating it exactly, but I was a lot of the times. And I think anyone interested in listening to this be able to look past these small imperfections and enjoy the HUGE improvement in sound quality. It sounds so much better not only than the partly vinyl-sourced 1988 CD version, but even the 1974 LP version, which used stereo mixdowns of the Matrix tracks, and multi-generation copies of the four End Cole tracks.

Without further ado, here's download links for .zip's of the FLAC files:

Thanks leamanc downloaded! I look forward to hearing this, even after the Matrix tapes - 1969 Live has a very fond place in my heart!

All - you’re welcome and glad you like it!

1969 is my second-favorite Velvets album after the third album. I love all their work of course but what they were up to all throughout 1969 (the year) is special to me.

I do think the cover is awful though, so my choice of alternate cover is somewhat of a compromise.

Those are my favourites too! Looking forward to listening, thanks! (I've grown fond of the tacky cover though haha)

Nice to meet a fellow '69 Velvets fan!

You'll see on my alternate cover that I've retained half of the front of the tacky cover. I think this was from a late '70s Spanish reissue. It features the somewhat misleading text:
Con las versiones originales:
"ROCK AND ROLL"
"SWEET JANE"
"LISA SAYS"
"FEMME FATALE"
I think they should have swapped out "New Age" for "Femme Fatale" :P
