.
No idea what's in the article but Ugly Things features are usually pretty thorough. Might be worth a look.

According to the Facebook page, it's "(our very own) Phil Milstein delivers a fascinating deep exploration of the origins of the Velvet Underground’s name." Sounds like it will be worth a read, although taking into account postage here, issues tend to be a bit out of my reach.

That's pretty common knowledge at this point, isn't it?

I'm certain Phil M has uncovered some new information. Trouble is, as DavidH says, postage ...

I assume that we are talking about events surrounding Tony Conrad's copy of the Michael Leigh book, The Velvet Underground, which he showed to the group, whilst he and Cale were sharing an apartment. Does the article expand on this?
underground, overground

The article’s not about how they chose their name.

For UK types ... issue 55 will be in stock at Rough Trade 22/1/21. You can pre-order it here:
https://www.roughtrade.com/gb/ugly-things/issue-55

It's a bit pricey ... but if you know UT you know it's thick and juicy.

(Clears throat)

The 12 page article is actually about the paperback books that provided the group their name. The research is fascinating and reveals (among other things) that the original author was on federal trial for his reportage. Great contemporaneous visuals too. If that endorsement's insufficient, Pamela Anderson gets thanked for helping with the archival digging.

I can't believe that anybody on this forum wouldn't find it riveting. If your Ugly Things subscription has unaccountably lapsed, I would order a copy pronto.
