VU Docu Film OST album announced

Post by iaredatsun » 30 Aug 2021 21:03

Here's the film soundtrack 2CD. No great surprises, except a couple of non-VU period recordings. One of which is an unreleased Theatre Of Eternal Music recording extract from 1963. I bet this wasn;t from La Monte Young's archive.

A little disappointing, though not surprising. I believe that will be the first non-bootleg release of The Ostrich, won't it? (aside for the original release on Pickwick, of course).

Looks like there's a longer trailer out now as well.

Thanks for this. That's cool its getting an OST. Hopefully it will enlighten a new younger audience as to the VU.

Yes, but I hope this isn't all we're getting – after that 'new releases coming' teaser in Mojo Mag.

That trailer filled me with a certain dread – as, after all, it starts to look like another music film consisting of all the 'good and great' talking heads they can find proselytising on just how revolutionary/artistic/visionary the band were to cue. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think it will be that at least from the way Haynes described it

I will look forward to this documentary, but they've done it way too late. Lou and Sterl are not here to tell their side of the story.

Same as what happened with The Beatles' "Anthology", which lacked John's point of view and gravitated constantly around Paul's opinions, thus producing a non-balanced view.

But I will watch it with interest, same as I did with "Anthology".

To be fair, Sterl has been dead for decades, and would likely not have been too enthusiastic about this even if he was alive (judging by his grudging agreement to join the 90's reunion). Lou has been interviewed/profiled/biog'd many dozens of times. Cale and Mo are perfectly capable of telling the story.

I am just happy it's getting a proper doc. Danny Fields is one of the best storytellers you'll ever see/hear. I hope he gets a ton of screen time.

But the key thing is (well for me, that is), where is Doug? I hope this is not another docu where he is relegated to a minor role or seen as an irrelevance.
