Bill Allerton cassettes

Post by lurid »

As I said in another post, I bought a small collection of VU/Lou Reed cassettes from an auction of Bill Allerton's estate. I didn't buy these just to squirrel them away in my collection - I bought them to ensure that they weren't lost. I'm slowly going through them to digitise them and archive them for posterity.

I'll share the interesting VU ones here by posting links to my Dropbox account - the files will be there in .flac format and you can download them to your PC/other device. I don't mind if you then share them elsewhere (i.e. Dimeadozen or some other peer-peer site) but if you do, please retain my notes or at least credit me for the transfers.

There are no huge new VU finds here, but at least 1 of Bill's VU cassettes is slightly better quality than the copy I had before. I've not listened to them all yet, but at an initial glance, the VU tapes look to me like:

1967-04-30 New York
1968-10-04 Cleveland (very) incomplete
1968-12-01 Cleveland incomplete
1969-01-XX Cleveland 1 song
1970-01-02 Philadelphia 4 songs
1970-01-03 Philadelphia 1 song
1970-05-XX Philadelphia
1971-11-05 London
1972-11-30 London
1972-12-06 Lampeter

Thanks Gordon!
Maybe the fast What Goes On from La Cave will be on one of the Cleveland tapes, would be great to hear that in better quality, along with the rest.

I have a theory that some of the Cleveland Tapes have been misdated and what passes as that Oct 68 show is actually March 69

Curious if your Musical Hall Cleveland show is better quality than what circulates because Jamie's tape is really good so not sure how the circulating one is so poor.
