The answer is on the cover of the 80s Live '68 LP: "This album was recorded on a mono Norelco cassette recorder using a hand held mike and a Norelco C-120 cassette."

Norelco was the US brand name for Philips products in the '60s. Philips invented cassette tapes. The first portable cassette recorders came out in 1963, and the first Norelco version, called the Carry-Corder '150', similar to the original Philips EL 3300, was presented to the United States in 1964. It looked like this:

If those bootlegs were made on cassette, then I can confirm that Klimek has an unheard tape of the band doing “Ferryboat Bill,” since I read a post made by one of Peter Laughner’s (pre-RFTT) bandmasters saying that they had that on cassette.

I don’t know why I didn’t mention this before, but I live just a couple of hours from Cleveland. I’d be able to get these if I receive permission.

Klimek's band Mirrors also recorded a song that is basically GIFIL, called Hands In My Pockets, so he had that too. You could try contacting him via Michael Weldon (Psychotronic Video) - he was the drummer in Mirrors. Various people (me included) have asked him about Klimek and the tapes over the years, and the answer was always been negative.

I checked public records a few days ago, and apparently Klimek is living in Texas now. Correct me if I’m wrong. If I can, I’ll see if Peter Laughner’s old drummer kept his tapes.
