Oh yes, three more records! The John Cale/Dream Syndicate compilations Sun Blindness Music, Stainless Gamelan and Dream Interpretation (2001). Lots of Cale/Morrison/MacLise in there.
mg196, No doubt you're a die-hard. I guess you're right about the material on Nothing Song boots been around for some time. They sure filled a few gaps in my collection though. Some stuff in there was completely new to my ears! What I liked about these boots was the grouping of the material. Generally, the anoying thing about bootlegs is that the material often is spread out on many different boots. The Nothing Song boots have had themes like Acetates and mono-versions on one, and late stuff plus the complete Paramount Theatre show on the other etc, you know what I mean?
And you're absolutely right about the End Cole Ave! I remember I confused the First night boot with the original End Cole Ave recordings back then. Realizing it was a different recording way way later, I kinda re-discovered the CD and it became a "new" boot (in my head). But I don't really care what most people here on the forum think about The Final VU box set. It is a document over the weird aftermath of the Velvets and it ads up to the complete picture.
My point, however (and my reply to the original post) is: This band here has been dead and gone for 37 years now (reunions never counts). Nevertheless, there hasn't been as many releases, official or unofficial ever, as in recent years and still there is a certain amount of stuff that we know for sure excists but hasn't surfaced yet. The Velvet Underground ain't no obscurity anymore. We all know that. They haven't been for a long long time. They are huge. With a back-catalogue selling at least as much as classic giants like Hendrix, Dylan and the Doors. Probably more but I'm only guessing.
It's hard for me to believe that those sitting on unreleased VU-tapes wouldn't be aware of the commersial value (thinking of the Dolph Acetate). Perhaps we won't see a new official release until Reed/Cale solves the rights/ownership conditions. But the stuff is still there and WILL come out sooner or later in one way or another. Most likely as unofficials. So I keep looking for new material daily.
