And what about that Promo cassette tape of VU that someone nice posted somewhere? There's some stuff going on in there I hadn't heard before.

Re: Differences Between VU Releases/Reissues
To further muddy the IWFTM water here, isn't there a different emphasis on the guitar? On the Universal remaster I hear more emphasis on the "da da da da..." downstrokes. This surprised me when I first hear it because it overwhelmed the "cha chaaa" guitar fill which I knew from my vinyl. On the mfsl this has been fully restored. I also think that you can better hear some of the drones that Cale creates through his piano playing on ATP (think Charlemagne Palestine). However, I'd tsay that the Universal remaster has a little more power in the drums and the bass. To simplify grossly, the mfsl master emphasises the arty weirdness, the Universal emphasises the rock. I'll be keeping both.MJG196 wrote:I don't know if I am hallucinating, but it sounded to me like the piano starts loud, then fades slightly into the first verse, then picks up again on the MFSL. It seems to be pretty even on the Deluxe Edition. However, I listened to it so many times, I may have been "tricking" my own ears!

Re: Differences Between VU Releases/Reissues
There's a white label promo which has a different "dryer" version of Lou's closet mix. I have a CDr from a tape of the vinyl, but there aint that much in itschnittstelle wrote:The differences of the Valentin- and Closet-mix aside. Did anyone find much sonic improvement in any of the releases of the third LP?

Is there anything new on there, or is it compiled from a number of available sources?

Re: Differences Between VU Releases/Reissues
I did check some more and it is the exact same track listing as CD 2 of the VU&N deluxe edition.
A funny repackaging job?

Hi iaredatsun (and anyone else who's following this obsessive's listening post),iaredatsun wrote:You make me want them. I especially like your description of Guess I'm Falling in Love ? one of my favourite post WLWH pre-3rd Cale tracks.Elvis Plebsley wrote:As far as VU&N and WLWH, I agree with you, I can't hear any difference between the shm and the Universal remasters. It is VU, Another View and 1969 where a difference can be found.
Is it worth saying how much better Stephanie Says sounds on the 'Velvet Underground Story'. The mix really brings out the idea of that off-centre flat sound that Cale introduced into their work ? especially in the 'off' backing vocals which were de-emaphasised in the 80's version.
I've just been looking back at the SHM Update thread and noticed that Olivier posted that he could detect no difference between the original CD and the SHM of Another View. Maybe I'm going nuts. So, caveat emptor and all that.
