thanks for the heads-up. This could be good. It's going on the CD player tonight.

And I thought pbthal had stopped ? as his latest 'vinyl done right' blog had gone. And, strangely, his original pbthal blog now lists dozens of coffee machines and is called 'Cuisinart Black Friday'.

His latest blog was forced to shut down by the record industry, but fortunately he started to share his rips again at Avax.

When I clicked on the link, my virus software stopped the website from installing a virus onto my pc. Has this happened to anyone else? Beware!

I use OS X so no virus for me. I guess there is a lot of adware at Avax, but I can't give no details.

Maybe this helps. Here are the download links:

No, but there are lots of new annoyances like video ads and misleading download links on avax since a year ago. You have to navigate with more care now and blocking flash helps.

A welcome return.

So this rip is doubly interesting. Firstly and most importantly it sounds great and pb's VPI Scoutmaster, as usual brings out the bass well, something which this recording is always in need of.

Secondly, I have never heard the volume increase 30 secs into Venus In Furs before. pbthal has just explained to me that this also occurs on the white label promo version, and by implication the first pressing - something that was corrected on the next pressing, I presume. I didn't know that before now.

I didn't know that before, too. It is also interesting that his new setup includes the phono stage of an old Marantz 2220B which sounds better than any new equipment.
Some year ago I asked him if he was interested in ripping some VU, but didn't get a response. I hope he'll do some more VU in the future.

Great find schnittstelle - I wouldn't have spotted this for ages.

And very interesting comments.

Can't wait to listen to it later today.

Many thanks!

Well, he used to say that he didn't do requests on his pbthal blog. But he did also say that people could arrange to send him vinyl to be ripped. Me, I'd like to hear a great rip of the Sundazed mono singles set. My own rip is too harsh ? I think maybe due to the ADC in my powerbook.

He used to accept offers when they were interesting to him and he generally prefers first pressings. Although he did also rips of later reissues. Maybe he wasn't offered the right thing, but I hope that the good response to this one will make him do some more VU.
