Here's an EPI photo...

... from NYC 1967 that I had never seen before. It's blurry as usual, but I guess it captures some of that chaotic environment we have all read about.

This is intriguing! I always believed (and I have to say that I still do) that the "strapped securely..." verse actually is Reed singing in a much whispier voice than in his other verses. The word "writhe" sounds especially Reed-ish to me. Now English is not my native language so I may not be the ...

I have also spent many hours trying to figure out who's playing what, and have ended up with the same results as arjan, except that Cale also overdubs his viola on Here She Comes Now. Which brings me to another point (sorry for getting a little OT here) - Tucker's percussion sounds really odd on ...

I kind of agree with Doctor Bob, choosing between VU songs is a bit like betraying a good friend. But then again, I have to admit I don't listen to It's Just Too Much from the PSAS box set very often... Among the softer songs, Sunday Morning and I'm Set Free have always been near the peak in my ...

I think that at least Reed's guitar was downtuned, so that he actually started off with an A chord - which then sounds as a G chord (well, technically it IS a G chord). At some point in the song I think you can hear how he uses the open mode on the lowest string on his guitar which does not match ...

Warhol tapes narrated by John Giorno

If you haven't heard these (but you probably have), then check out http://epc.buffalo.edu/sound/mp3/sp/warhol/ Tape 5 is a favourite; you can hear the Velvets play an unknown (for me, at least) jam, then a short Waiting for the man (with Cale on viola!) and a very nice I'll be your mirror (with Nico ...

According to MOJO (Feb. 1999) this picture is from the Scene, January 7, 1967. I have no idea if it is correct or not. And maybe John is doing the hissing sound in Black Angel's Death Song.

Hugo the Photographer

Does anyone know details about Hugo the photographer - I mean the man who took the astonishingly beautiful picture of the VU on the back of the first album? I am still as intrigued by this picture as I was when I first bought the album back in 1992. It´s the way I envision the EPI in my head. I ...
