Y: the musicians in this band are professionals, much better than we were in the VU and indeed we now play in the style of "1969 live", that fits Lou's songs much better than his earlier heavy bands [e.g.R'n'R Animal]
Q: did you see Nico?
Y: I've never ever, in my whole life, seen her.
--with Lou Reed [pictures] in music magazine OOR [vol.5 #6, Mar.26, page 48-49, "The Hamlet of Electricity" by Bert vd Kamp, pictures by G.Hanekroot] - interviewed around the Mar.05 concert in Rotterdam
in 2018 republished at https://oor.nl/blogs/een-niet-zon-perfe ... reed-1975/ [note "title picture" is promo from 1974, but others are from 1975 article] - use good automated translation [e.g.google] and will be readable in English and German

Related article from 1975:
--interview with Nico [picture] in De Volkskrant [Feb.25] - delpher.nl/nl/kranten/view?&identifier=ABCDDD:010881333:mpeg21:a0106 - for Nico life is an unbearable burden
Q: Have you ever been happy
N: During the Velvet Underground, that was my happiest time, it's beautiful to be somebody's mirror!

NOTE: as maximum 2 links per post, I deleted the http-parts [except the OOR one] and you have to copy the urls into your browser
delpher.nl has both cutting and full page download options

some background is explained by Bert vd Kamp in 2020 interview published at https://oor.nl/interviews/bert-van-de-k ... nalistiek/
--Lou Reed didn't want to be interviewed, but wanted to have an article from another magazine [Muziek Express] translated
--so the organizer of the concert [company Mojo] called vd Kamp and before the concert he translated the article
--Lou Reed said to Bert vd Kamp to meet again after the concert
--of course he went and they spoke all night till the early morning; after breakfast [actually their diner] Lou gave vd Kamp headphones to listen to the not yet released Metal Machine Music. vd Kamp listened for some 10 minutes, asked "what's this?", Reed started laughing and told him: "you've just broken the record, it stood at max.7 minutes..."

in the "Lou Reed Archive at NYPL" is item 562333 - https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/ite ... e12c5f11dc
"Lou Reed - Rotterdam, the Netherlands [Recorded Conversation] 1975 May 3"
the date is wrong of course [must be March 05] and it could very well be the first part of above interview as the subjects match; funny is that in the foreword of the original interview is stated that Reed didn't allow any taping nor writing, so the interviewer had to reconstruct everything from memory!
--in 2019 I've mailed both people close to the Lou Reed Archive at NYPL and Bert vd Kamp about the wrong date and if the recording is that very interview, unfortunately never got a reply, and the date of the item is still not corrected...

Bert van de Kamp died 2020.Apr.09 at the age of 73
see oor.nl/news/bert-van-de-kamp-de-beste-popjournalist-die-nederland-heeft-gehad/
--as a tribute and in memory of Bert the above mentioned recording must be checked if corresponding with Bert's interview with Lou as published in 1975 in OOR [and republished in oor.nl, links see above]

Yes, there is A LOT of misdated stuff in the archive PDF. I find it extremely odd that the archivist has less access to proper dates and such than us fans. Before they posted the info, everything should have been vetted, don't you think?!

fully agree about vetting dates, especially for an archive at a [the?] library!!

note: I didn't check dates in detail, but when encountering the Rotterdam recording dived in my old music magazines and found the dating mistake, which in itself is understandable: from European 05-03 [March] to American 05[May]-03 dating system

when I discovered that the description of that recording in the LR Archive
"tape contains an unidentified woman talking, and Reed and an unidentified person talking about..."
matched the contents [subjects and order!] of the interview in OOR, I really wanted to have this checked, and, as I'm very far from NY, send a mail [may be I commented it here also, but I don't remember...]

PS: if you're interested in scans of the articles in OOR, just let me know and I'll try [note it's double A3+ pages, so not easy and some texts are even hard to read on paper...]
