The compilation collects pop songs written by Reed during his mid-60s stint as a staff songwriter for the record label:

Anthology of Lou’s Work for Pickwick Records - Light In The Attic

You can listen to The Ostrich on Bandcamp. It sounds very different to me, and not really in a good way.

This is incredible! I will finally be able to toss those old boots!!
The only question is whether to get the CD or vinyl versions... Anyone have any experience with LITA pressings? If they are best avoided, I'll grab the CDs.

Do the samples sound better on the LITA page?

Is the bandcamp sample just a bad file conversion?

Sounds a lot brighter than what we're used to but I'm ok with that. Maybe we're hearing the difference between the original master and cheaply pressed 60 year old vinyl. Or maybe they've just re-EQed it for the modern ear.
Cool that this stuff is getting properly compiled at last, especially with Sad Lonely Orphan Boy included!
Interested to see the Beach Boys songs there - are these now officially canon?

I'd say it's almost unthinkable that any original masters exist for these recordings, given the nature of how Pickwick operated
These all sound like they are mastered from needle drops on original vinyl, but using modern techniques to clean up the sound
Turd polishing territory unfortunately when your source is 1960s 7" singles

And budget label 7" singles, at that! Still, beggars can't be choosers.bobbydriver wrote: ↑14 Aug 2024 13:59Turd polishing territory unfortunately when your source is 1960s 7" singles

I've listened to that surfsiders lp maybe a 100 times and I eventually concluded that it is Lou on vocals. But unless one of rhe original participants comes forward I don't think we'll ever know for sure!Mark wrote: ↑14 Aug 2024 13:31 Sounds a lot brighter than what we're used to but I'm ok with that.
