And another reboot...

Post by falconwhit »

just saw this new boot today:
Velvet Underground – Tune In / Drop Out
https://www.tornlightrecords.com/shop/v ... -drop-out/
Doesn't look like anything new except for the packaging (but I ordered it nonetheless)

More interesting imo (but not the VU), there's a brand new Modern Lovers bootleg that just came out:
After Hours With the Modern Lovers Live at the Mercer Arts Center (New Years Eve, Jan 1, 1973)
Recorded by Paul Nelson, this has circulated before but this is the first time it's out on tangible media as far as I known.
It was put out by the same person who put out the Paramount one recently.

I found the description of the vu album more than a little odd. But looking harder I found the tracklisting. Poor Richards and Symphony of Sound.

The Modern Lover`s in 1973 sounds promising. I wonder what the sound is like?

Yes, the VU is a rehash of old stuff, got it for the packaging really - I'm a sucker

here's a sample of the Modern Lovers

the sound is what it is, not worse than the VU at the BTP...

The LP sounds so much better than this 16 year old YouTube! It hasn't left my turntable in days. I remember these 4 tracks on a 90s bootleg CD called Songs of Remembrance but I don't think the full set has circulated at least publicly. The same team did a Television 1975 at CBGB and Big Star 1974 in Cambridge LP too. All really great stuff. Hopefully they have more Paul Nelson tapes to share.

Are there any recent-ish boot LPs with Melody Laughter on? That would be one I'd listen to, the CDs are a pain because of the long setting up and noise/tuning etc at the beginning - having it on vinyl would make skipping that part easier.

Simon, it's on the VUAS released Valley Dale Ballroom 2xLP.

oh yeah, forgot about that - more interested in the instrumentals than the songs. I have the Nothing Song on the old World Youth Yesterday's Parties LP.

If it's the full set of that Modern Lovers show that's huge news! The 4 tracks that have circulated since the 90s are gold, about as muscular as the MLs ever got with the extra guitar from Felice. Sign me up!
