Dealers selling reissues as originals need contacting

Post by Antwhiplash »

Hope some of you guys are into this idea.
I'm sure like me you're seeing more and more Velvets reissues, second pressings etc being passed off as original 1st pressings (especially on ebay). I know i've seen quite a lot lately.
Thought we could flag these up and if enough of us contact the seller he may get the message?

I think a few of these are genuine mistakes as the Velvets catalogue can be pretty confusing at the best of times.

I'll start with this scary one that went up within the last few hours.
Obviously a 1998 replica being passed off as a 1st press:

If that was a genuine 1st press in that condition i would have pulled the trigger :D

Here's a UK 1971 reissue being sold as an original pressing:

Sold one recently and got exactly that.
For a stone mint copy i'd definitely pay high though!

I've contacted both sellers. I just hate the thought of a new collector being burned by one of these.

The WLWH is definitely a re-issue and the seller needs to be informed about that ? as it appears to be fraudulent ? although, as you say, it could also be a genuine mistake.

However the 3rd LP listing is for an LP released in October 1971 (although that date is unconfirmed to my knowledge as it is not on the sleeve/label). That LP was the 2nd release of it in the Uk after a limited 1st pressing of 500-600 (according to Olivier). Therefore I think that the seller is quite able to call this 'vintage' and not the 'current issue' without being particularly misleading. He is not calling it a 1st pressing. He has also given the serial numbers and it is all there to see.

The issue with the WLWH is that it looks very much like the real thing to an uniformed eye. The problems start when the same matrix numbers are used in re-issues and the original manufacturers must know the likelihood of them being mistaken at times for the real thing.

That is correct, but the i felt the description was purposefully misleading.
The first pressing is so much more expensive and i was worried that people might bid much higher than the 1971 2nd issue is worth.

The White Light/White Heat has been relisted. It doesn't say in the description that its a repro, but doesn't now claim to be an original. So congratulations to the members of the forum, we have achieved something.

Thank you so much to everyone.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... _690wt_881 Here is a seller selling rare Lou cd's very minimal details; won't answer questions. Also, this cd "banging on my drum" is a 2cd set. He doesn't list it as 2cd and the tracklistings go from 1-22 which seems like 1 cd. Odd though, no bad feedback (even on ebaynegs). ??
