Well spotted Cuckoo, I was waiting for someone to bring that point up - but seriously, are we really sure they are 'unknown' snippets could they possibly just be edited sections of other versions.
Some of the SRs are 30 mins long - I would find it difficult to identify a 30 sec edit from them.. I suppose the tell tale sign would be the actually sound/level qualitys within the recording, which is much easier to identify within say a sound programme like Peak etc..
For someone to really prove these unidentified fragments either way they would need all known SRs to hand, anyone got a few days to spare?
how many versions of sister ray
over the years i've listened to all the SRs listed before, but none of them sound anything like the source for the "hidden" snippets. The "hidden" stuff has a different sound and feel - it's hard to describe. My guess is that someone has a copy of John Cale's tapes from Gymnasium 1967, and is just teasing us with these little bits...i'd sure like to hear the rest
The whole show no doubt on two discs hidden away in a file drawer marked "Fluffernutter Devices"...lurid_uk wrote:My guess is that someone has a copy of John Cale's tapes from Gymnasium 1967, and is just teasing us with these little bits...

Thanks to Bleach for the listing above. It turns out that I have more versions than I thought I had. All are mp3's though. Oh well, better to have them in some form than in no form at all.
I did come across several listings for Sister Ray that I do not have and wondered if anyone has a copy or
knows if they exist:
April 26-27 - "Searchin" (early version of Sister Ray? - Searchin for my mailine...) Boston Tea Party (last show with Nico)
Dec. 1, 1968 - Sister Ray (18.33) Music Hall, Cleveland, Ohio
March 13, 1969 - Sister Ray/Murder Mystery (22.05) Boston Tea Party
Summer 1969 - Sister Ray (+45.00) Electric Factory, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
July 11, 1969 - Sister Ray/Murder Mystery (20.37) Boston Tea Party
October 1969 - Sister Ray - Music Hall, Cleveland, Ohio
October 23-25, 1969 - Sister Ray (+45.00) Vulcan Gas Co., Austin, Texas
Any info would be appreciated.

simonm,
I don't know if you're into Neil Young or not... But I just managed to separate out the audio tracks from the Greendale DVD that came with the original CD.
He's playing the entire Greendale set acoustically - no Crazy Horse. I don't think many people have this version because of it being on the DVD and not available in just audio format.
I have it in .ogg and mp3 files.
Let me know if you are interested.

ok - I'll try uploading these to YouSendIt.com - they host a free but limited download for a week, or I could send the files to the email account I set up for the Max's rehearsal if that still works - brigidpolktapedtheworld@yahoo.com (password is maxskansascity)
Will report back tonight.
