Interesting. I hadn't really clicked with the mono version so far. The only mono track that ever really struck with me was the single mix of Here She Comes Now, where the drums provide a stronger pulse to the song when they both emanate from the same point in space as opposed to their offset beat split across the channels. Also, the single version of Here She Comes Now feels like a different mix. Still not convinced yet about the mono LP really being a different mix to the stereo but it could be that a good transfer would work in it's favour.DavidH wrote:I'd heard years and years of propaganda that mono WL/WH was unnecessary, but since I've heard it (via Ultimate Mono ...), I think it's absolutely essential. The Gift, in particular, needs to be heard in mono - the music and story work together, rather than against each other, as on the stereo version. Sister Ray also sounds awesome.
The rip on that box set is OK, but I'm sure it could be done better.

I can upload the 'white light white heat us yellow label promo v5046 east coast' mono vinyl rip somewhere if it is wanted. I presume this was the source of WL/WH from Ultimate Mono and Acetates? There's no info about the equipment used for transfer.
