simonm,

Thanks for the Cleveland 68 version of Sister Ray. I really appreciate it!!!

That takes me one step closer to having all the versions of Sister Ray that are available.

I think I have everything now except for Jan 10, 1969 and March 13, 1969.

I guess there's also a short (for SR) version from Jan 3, 1970 that I might not have. And does anyone know about the songs listed as "Searchin'" from April of 1967? They were the last shows with Nico and could be versions of Sister Ray (Searchin' for my mainline...). Any info would be appriciated.

I take it you haven't included the 1971 (2x) and 1972 Sister Rays off Final VU?

Yeah, I did leave them out. I've heard at least one of them. No Lou. No Sterl. No John. Somehow, it just doesn't sound / feel the same.

BTP SR?

Post by dsulpy »

What about the version on the "Metal Machine Sound" boot? Olivier's site lists this as 3-69, but it doesn't match either the 3-13 version (on URT3) or 3-15 (Guitar Amp Tape). Nor does it match the July BTP, or any other version of SR I've found...

... and what's this with Yahoo and Max's rehearsals...??? :-)

"over the years i've listened to all the SRs listed before, but none of them sound anything like the source for the "hidden" snippets. The "hidden" stuff has a different sound and feel - it's hard to describe. My guess is that someone has a copy of John Cale's tapes from Gymnasium 1967, and is just teasing us with these little bits...i'd sure like to hear the rest"

I think you're right. The fragments on "Twisted Stars" sound nothing like any of the other live sources for SR, but sound very close to the sound of the available cuts from the Gymnasium show.

I have never heard of the Metal Machine Sound boot and I can't seem to find it on Oliver's site. Is there a version of Sister Ray on it? Where can I find it?

Okay, I've got to ask. Are you saying that this snippet is not one of the known Sister Rays? Or that it is one of the snippets that appear on Caught Between The Twisted Stars?

Cheers

It's not the source of the "Twisted Stars" fragments, or any other "Sister Ray" that I can find and it's not a fragment either (it runs 15:24). It could just be I'm missing one somewhere and it's THAT, but it's certainly not one of the March Boston Tea Party shows, as Olivier's site says.

The info on "Metal Machine Sound" is on the page of vinyl boots, second from the bottom.

The only version of SR that is near that time-length that I've com across is listed as a combination of - Some Kinda Love-Sister Ray (15.30) ? Lou Reed ? Live In Italy.

Since the Metal Machine Sound is basically Lou Reed work (and NOT a VU album), could this be it?
