You really need to listen to more Sonic Youth - even their newest album, Sonic Nurse, has a lot of obvious VU reference. If you can, have a listen to tracks like "New Hampshire" and "Stones" and compare them to some of the long jams from live shows in 1968. Strong VU DNA there. Sonic Youth got the message that pop music can be experimental and freeform from the VU - sometimes the forms themselves sound very different, but Lou, John and Sterl's idea that the song is a springboard for improvisation and mutation are pretty much the roots of Sonic Youth's brilliant career.

Well, Patti started out as an actress in indie plays off off Broadway, and she performed her poetry live, which is also a form of theater, isnt it?
Ok, I agree I don't know much about Sonic Youth. I just posted my thoughts, is all. Maybe I need to find out some more stuff about them. I've heard a few songs and liked none (precisely because I considered them noise rock). Maybe that was a long time ago. Maybe I should listen again...

Ooops, iIm suffering from alzheimers or I'm demented, thought for a minute this was a new thread from Rosie, demanding us to fulfill her demands in order to get tracks 2 and onwards (from All Tomorrow's Parties) in completely lossless format, but when checking the dates I came to the conclusion this was from the old days when we got the tracks in "semi-lossless (m4a) format"
