I had the honor on sitting in on transferring the original master tapes (and trying to decipher some cryptic tape box notes) with Bill Levenson at Sterling Sound in NYC, and have been working with Sundazed on the package. This will be another beautiful addition to any VU fan's collection.

There's a bunch of discussion on the Facebook posting. Sundance says the timing is "late Spring".

The most intriguing (to me) part of this offering is the mono mix of the third album. Says Sundance:
"The mono master for the 3rd album was created from the stereo master, but was NOT a typical fold-down. It's a unique and essential listen. ...
in theory, it IS a fold-down. But not a simple matter of collapsing left and right. Work was done to make the mono a bit different sounding, and more radio-friendly."
It's not clear whether this is a fold-down of Lou's Closet Mix, the Valetin Mix or something different entirely.

Also: "An introduction by David Fricke, and a mind-blowing array of graphics, ads, posters, etc...."

Sundazed does some beautiful, quality work. Even though i own over 350 pieces of VU vinyl, I must have this set too.

Good news. I'm glad that Sundazed have been the ones allowed to work on these VU re-issues.

It'll be great to have the so-called 'lost 4th' album on one piece of good vinyl.

I guess this answers the Sal Mercuri mystery asking about WLWH mono LP rips recently, although if they still have the mono master I wondered why they so needed a high-quality clean vinyl rip?

This sounds interesting - could be a chance for Sundazed to redeem themselves following the ridiculous abortion that was the Record Store Day Foggy Notion single.

Usual questions apply about whether there will be any of the original raw mixes on the 1969 album, and whether this third album mono mix is something that was done at the time or another piece of ersatz nonsense.

Mark must be referring to the way that Sundazed claimed to be using a vintage* mix of Foggy Notion for the Record Store Day release. Hopes were high, and then when it arrived, the single not only used the 80s mix but a truncated version of the track from an 80's 12" promo single. The single turned out to be a 7" re-release of a 1980s Polydor 12" promo and I guess that's what led them to describe it as being vintage or original*. Disappointment all round.
