nico in manchester

i recently found out that nico once lived
in whalley range (my neck of the woods) ...
can anyone be specific to whereabouts?
an address maybe? just the road would do ...

It was about '81/82, when she was being backed by the Blue Orchids.

Apparently Manchester reminded her of Berlin.

Theres quite alot about her life in Manchester in the excellent book 'Songs They Never Play On The Radio' by James Young (her keyboard player) - its a brilliant and funny record of life on the road (even non-Nico fans would find it entertaining).

I think her life in manchester was quite depressing, I do wonder whether she was there because of the steady supply of drugs. According to a friend who met her at a house party in Manchester she was seen as a bit of minor cult celebrity / curio.... I'm sure that she probably felt at home with the goths / new wavers-romantics...

Nico also stayed in Edinburgh in the early 1980s and was well known on the local heroin scene (heroin was a very big problem in Edinburgh at that time).

I never actually saw her while she lived in Edinburgh, but I saw her playing at the Festival in 1986 or 87 - she was completly out of it and looked terrible. (But she still managed to sign my banana lp!)
