1969 versions

Post by marukomu »

Is there a list somewhere that explains the differences between the various versions of the 1969 tracks ("the lost album"). I'm thinking about the VU/another view versions vs the rough mixes vs the 2014 new mixes etc. There's a bit of information on http://olivier.landemaine.free.fr/vu/an ... tudio.html but I haven't seen a description of the differences between the different versions. It may well be on here already so feel free to point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

we've definitely discussed the versions of the tracks on the "1969" compilation, maybe from when that grouping was first released as a disc on the super deluxe 3rd album reissue, but searching on 1969 isn't much use obviously. I don't think there's a track-by-track summary of the specific differences between the diff mixes, but there will be references to which ones are 60s or 80s or 2014 mixes. Which ones are 'the best' is not straightforward.

it doesn't answer your question, but I tried to summarise the various (best?) sources for the different mixes of all those 1969 tracks a while back. I didn't go as far as detailing all the differences between the versions and I think "best" is always going to be a subjective call.....

It's a while since I did this and I may not have got all the details correct - corrections welcome!

Hi Gordon, maybe I'm blind, but I'm not seeing Inside Your Heart on your list
Also, Ferryboat Bill is on the White Heat EP

I was only intending to cover the 1969 recordings, so nothing from Feb or May 1968.

And yes, of course Ferryboat Bill was on White Heat - I will update it - thanks!

I also didn't intend to cover all the bootlegs which later featured some of this material, just what are considered the best quality.

Nice work!

One other correction - there is no 80s/90s mix of Ferryboat, Rock and Roll or Ocean. The versions on VU etc are the 1969 mixes.

Personally I think they did a great job on the 2014 mixes - much more authentic-sounding than the '80s efforts.
