VU & Nico 6 disc reissue for October!
Re: VU & Nico 6 disc reissue for October!
Nothing new, alas. Maybe sound quality will be a big improvement.
Hoping this will lead to more releases. Incredible that they haven't pursued to release the matrix recordings.

Thank you for letting us know. I am very pleased about this - I'd say an official release of the entire Columbus show, presumably in better quality than we have, along with the rehearsal and acetate, presumably again in better (lossless) quality, is a pretty major deal.
It also means that the band (Lou) have ok'd new releases of previously unreleased stuff, so thats a good sign for the rest of what they have emerging. Boston tea party tapes from master? Rest of the Gymnasium? Klimek tapes from master? Freeman tape? Even the Matrix tapes maybe..............
I'm hoping anyway.

Absolutely! If this goes well (sells a lot) this could re-prime the Official Bootleg pump that screeched to a halt after The Quine Tapes. I'm encouraged. Plus we still have the Sundazed set to look forward to.nick257 wrote:Thank you for letting us know. OK, sorry to be a Debby Downer, but I am betting this isn't going to sell a helluva lot. This is the perfect example of a "Collector's Edition." Only hardcore VU fans are going to shell out the kind of money this is going to cost. Here is my line of thinking:velvetfan wrote: Absolutely! 1. We had the Deluxe Edition not all that long ago - with some of those Chelsea Girls tracks.
2. Ask 100 people who Nico is. Your answer 96% of the time will be, "Who?"
3. Casual listeners aren't interested in demos and live shows
4. 6 discs + DVD, one of which has four songs, contain the same songs in multiple forms (alternate versions, demos, live, etc)
5. Most of this has been heard by hardcore fans already
6. This is going to be a limited run and cost a pretty penny. Off the top of my head, I'd guess $70 minimum.
I MAY purchase this, if only to get rid of my silver CD-Rs, but even that depends on the quality of the "remasters." I have been pretty unhappy with the sound quality of some recent reissues/remasters in the past few years. Bataclan and American Poet are both inferior to bootleg editions. Some of the Rhino reissues of Stooges recordings have been screwed up. I am very happy with my VU&N Deluxe Edition. So if I find out that the other material has been noise-reduced and compressed into a loud, high-end mess I am going to pass.
OK, this has turned into a bit of a rant, but I refuse to let record companies treat me like an idiot. A RICH idiot at that!

Hell, we're getting official releases of Columbus, Ohio 1966, the Norman Dolph acetate AND the factory rehearsals.
I NEVER thought that stuff would get a legit release.
I for one am stoked!

Be interested to hear the alternate mixes of heroin and european son on disc one, since they aren't the norm dolph acetates. Does that mean they've not been released before, bootleg or otherwise?

Re: VU & Nico 6 disc reissue for October!
Well, half of this is very interesting anyway! Here's hoping they eventually release the new stuff separately like they did with the previous deluxe edition. It's funny how they seem to be alienating both casual fans and hardcore fans by targeting only hardcore fans who somehow don't own anything yet!
Re: VU & Nico 6 disc reissue for October!
. . were there no demos/outtakes from Chelsea Girls?? . . I find that hard to believe . .
