Cool! But whether it can top Richie's Day by Day book remains to be seen. IMO that's the VU book to end all VU books. And unless new source material and footage surfaces, it seems like there's not much more to say at this pont. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

I seriously doubt that the aim of the book is to replace the Unterberger book. I think Thurston Moore's hyperbole is nothing more than an expression of excitement.

I'm afraid the author is missing the punk aspect of surf music. It's surprising, because he also wrote a book on The Ramones.

I doubt Ignacio Julià wrote the publisher’s sales blurb. It’d likely to have been the publisher. I can’t comment on the argument that surf was or was not punk in intention, but I suspect the blurb is referring to popular surf music hits like the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean - purely for rhetorical effect.

Whoever wrote it, I think it's sad that the extremely wrong notion that the post-Elvis / pre-Beatles / pre-Dylan era in rock and roll was just a teen idol era is still being spread around.

Agreed that's how lazy writers like to present a false binary to make it seem like VU is the only band at that time making progressive challenging music. As if it was them versus teeny bop nonsense.
